BAWNTAWN BORDER COLLIES

Who we are -     We have been showing and breeding Border Collies since 1981.  We purchase a lovely female puppy from a local Breeder with only the thought of a lovely pet and companion for us and our young pet male Border Collie.  At this stage I did not realize that this little ball of black and white fluff by the name of Jaize Judy would change my life forever.  From the first day I put "Judy" on a lead, she seemed to 'float', and I wondered if perhaps she would be a nice puppy to show as this is what her breeder had originally intended to do with her.  A phone call and visit to see Les and Iris Heale convinced us that we should try and show her.  "Judy" did us proud from the very beginning even though she had a novice handler, who had never even been to see a dog show.  "Judy" gained the title of AUST. CH. at the tender age of 11 months, and immediately dropped coat.  Before retiring at the age of 7 years, she had to her credit many  In Group wins (at a time when Border Collies were rarely looked at for Group), Challenge Bitch 1987 Brisbane Royal, Challenge Bitch 1986 Toowoomba Royal and had gained 614 challenge points.  Of her 3 daughter that were shown, all gained their Aust. Ch. titles, they were Aust. Ch. Bawntawn Justa Lady, Aust. Ch. Bawntawn Simply Stunin' and Ch. Bawntawn Comeon NTemptme U.D.
Many dogs have come and gone since "Judy", but none will ever replace this special 'lady'.

Mid 1991 we imported a beautiful black & white male puppy from Clan-Abby Kennels in NZ affectionately know as "Sam", pedigree name of Clan-Abby The Wizard Of Oz.  "Sam" had a very successful show career in Brisbane,  easily gaining his Australian Champion title and winning many In Group and In Show awards including 2 Best In Show (All Breeds, championship shows) 1 Best In Show (Speciality Open Show), 1 R/Up In Show (All Breeds, championship show), he also accumulated over 800 challenge points (all points were awarded before the instigation of the Grand Champion title in Australia).  In November 1995 "Sam" was exported to Wally and Carol Rice in the USA where he continues to have a successful show career at nearly 10 years of age.  "Sam" quickly gained his American Champion title and has won many Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 awards along the way.  He has also added the obedience title of CD to his name.  He is also the sire and grandsire of many American Champions.

The next dog of great significance for us at BAWNTAWN was AUST/NZ CH. JOY'S ECHO OF CLAN-ABBY (Imp. NZ).  He originally came to us on a 12 month lease in August, 1991, which turned into another 12 months and after this time I managed to persuade his owner Sandra Carr to allow me to purchase "Echo".  He has been the backbone of our breeding programme in recent years and it has been a privilege to own such a wonderful dog.  Unfortunately "Echo" passed away on 25th August, 2000 at 13-1/2 years of age, and is sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.   "Echo" won many Group and Show awards, but will be remembered for some time through some wonderful progeny and grand-progeny in the show rings today.
We are very proud to own "Echo's" son, Aust Ch. Khayoz Eternal Echo, who is already a multi Best In Show (all Breeds) winner.
"Echo" has progeny and grand-progeny in most states of Australia, and many overseas Countries.

To date we have bred 20 Australian Champions, 2 New Zealand Champions and 1 Danish Champion, as well as many Obedience titled dogs.

Our aim is to breed quality Border Collies not only for the show and obedience rings, but to be great companions and pets.
